At Back Against The Bars, we see that incarceration can place physical barriers between people, but it should never destroy hope, dignity, or human connection.
Every day, thousands of incarcerated men and women struggle to maintain relationships with their loved ones, access resources, advocate for themselves, and prepare for a future beyond prison walls. At the same time, families are left searching for answers, support, and a way to remain connected to those they love.
Back Against The Bars was created to help close that gap.

Whether someone is fighting for a second chance in court, seeking companionship through our Phone Pal Program, sharing their story through The Bar Street Journal, or simply looking for guidance during a difficult season of life, our goal remains the same:
To remind people that they still matter.
We understand that every person has a story. While we do not excuse poor decisions, we believe people are more than the worst mistake they have ever made. We believe in accountability, redemption, growth, and second chances.
